Agnes Lucille "Tootsie" Murphy, 69, of Muncie, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 6, 2012 with her loving family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 19, 1942, in Hopkinsville, KY to the late Charlie and Annie B. (Cushenberry) Poole. Agnes graduated in 1961 from Attucks High School in Hopkinsville, KY. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. Agnes was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Before becoming a homemaker, she was employed by Head Start and the Multi and Buley Community Centers. Agnes leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband of forty-eight years, Herbert Murphy, Jr.; two sons, Monte M. and Myron M. (companion, Mary Johnson) Murphy both of Muncie, IN.; one daughter, Melody M. (Danny Connell) Murphy of Muncie, IN.; one brother, Charles (Cathy) Poole of Muncie, IN; one sister, Betty (John Earl Jr.) Hollins of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Danny and MacKenzie Murphy, Darrius Connell, MyKayla, Khamari and MyaNika Murphy; a compassionate and devoted sister-in-law who was by her side from day one of her illness, Erma (Charles) Green of Muncie, IN, additional sister-in-laws, Peggy Moore of Muncie, IN, Lillian Barbee of Clarksville, TN, and Frances Poole of Indianapolis, IN; a special cousin, George Cushenberry of Indianapolis, IN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Agnes was preceded in death by her son, Michael Murphy; parents, Charlie and Annie B. Poole; brothers, George L. Poole, Robert E. Poole and Luther D. Poole; sisters, Annie Mae Galbreath and Sylvia Marie McGregor. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Hazim Rimawi and his staff, the staff of the 6th floor Oncology Unit and Hospice of St. John's Hospital in Anderson, IN, home care nurses, Shannon, Joyce, and Patricia, and Little Red Door Cancer Services of East Central Indiana, Inc. Funeral service is 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Union Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation two hours prior. Pastor W.J. Jackson, Sr. officiating. Burial in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
