IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alma Marie
Ashman
May 28, 1943 – May 4, 2021
On Tuesday, May 4, 2021, our Matriarch, Alma Marie Ashman, flew to heaven to be with the Lord surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born on May 28, 1943 to the late James Thomas Cooper and Flora Belle (Lewis) Cooper.
Alma had a laugh and smile that was not only joyful, but contagious. Along with coloring, playing cards, and sitting on her swing, even on the really hot days, Alma loved gospel and classic country music, soap operas (The Bold and the Beautiful), traveling all over for concerts, and listening to music daily, which brought her comfort and joy. Boy, did she love her cheese puffs and candy bars. She enjoyed traveling throughout her later years and especially enjoyed going to Pigeon Forge with her granddaughter, Lula. Alma had a heart of gold, helping anyone she possibly could no matter the circumstances. She volunteered a number of years at South View Elementary in Muncie, Indiana, where she was loved by children and teachers alike. She was generous not only with volunteer time, but always enjoyed having special quality time with Gracie, Jordan, and Jacey, as well as her many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. She enjoyed playing games such as Mother May I, going for walks to the library, going to the park, and shopping.
Alma is survived by her husband of 21 years, William P. Ashman; daughters, Linda Caudill (Steve), Mazie Puckett (Frankie), Mary Prater (Eddie), and Lori Pedigo; six step-children, Frank, Richard, Ruth, Jeannie, Barbie, and Rachel, all of whom she loved dearly; brother, Seal Cooper (Janet); and sister, Louise Griffey. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her and have wonderful memories of time spent with her. Alma will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas Cooper and Flora Belle (Lewis) Cooper; daughter, Sylvia Delk; brothers, Allen, Danny, Buch, and Bill; and a sister, Zelma Burton.
The family is forever grateful for the care Alma received from Westminster Village of Muncie and Kindred Hospice Company during her rehabilitation care. Alma loved Val and Rosetta during her last days of care like they were her family.
