Anita Kay "Mimi" Cooper of Eaton, Indiana passed away at the age of 62 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana on Friday, November 12, 2021 after an extended illness. She was born in Martin, Kentucky on July 17, 1959 to Arthur and Aileen Ward.
Anita was the oldest of four children. She was a 1977 graduate of Delta High School in Muncie and then married her high school sweetheart, Edwin Cooper, shortly after. They were lovingly married for 44 years and had one daughter. Prior to her failing health, Anita was an employee at First Merchants Bank in Muncie. She fought against many odds, and in 2019, she received a kidney transplant. She painted beautiful pictures prior to her illness and loved watching her daughter play sports. She also loved traveling with her husband when able, and for the last ten years, spending time with her two grandchildren.
Anita is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Edwin Cooper of Eaton; daughter, Michelle Schuhmacher (William) of Muncie; mother, Aileen Ward of Eaton; brother, Thomas Ward of Danville, Illinois; grandchildren, Jacob and Mia Schuhmacher; and lifelong friend/sister, Karla Greer.
Anita was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Ward and brothers, Michael and Barry.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 12:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Dewayne Loveless. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation and American Lung Association in Anita's name.
