Arlett L. Haffner, 90, of Muncie passed away Thursday evening, April 10th, 2014 at The Waters of Muncie following an extended illness. He was born May 31st, 1923 in Bluffton, IN, and was the son of the late Forrest Orlo & Esther (Bucher) Haffner.
Arlett graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1941. He briefly worked at Delaware Machine. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII as an airplane mechanic. Arlett retired from Chevrolet in 1982 after 36 ½ years of service as a tool and die maker, where he was most often known as Al or Red. Arlett enjoyed raising beagles, rabbit and squirrel hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work, cutting wood, and spending time at the lake cottage that he built in 1955. He was an active lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Arlett is survived by his wife of 70 years Gracie (Hamilton) Haffner of Muncie, whom he married January 15th, 1944 in Texas; his children, Karen Voth (Gene) of Michigan, Kent Haffner (Debbie) of Muncie; six grandchildren, Jennifer Nelson (Brady) of Arizona, Ryan Voth of California, Kimberly Chapin (Mike) of Arizona, Jesse Voth of Texas, Amos Haffner (Crystal) of Indianapolis, and Adam Haffner (Elisha) of Indianapolis; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Crystal White and Violet Favors. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Norval, Ward, and Glenn; a daughter Kristin Hubartt, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Arlett will be held Tuesday, April 15th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Dill officiating. Burial with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
