B. Eugene "Duke" Strahan, 84, of Muncie, died Wednesday evening, June 4th, 2014 at the Waters of Yorktown, following an extended illness. He was born June 6th, 1929 in Delaware County, and was the son of the late William Forest & Georgia Etta (Brees) Strahan.
Gene was a graduate of Royerton High School Class of 1947. He was a retired farmer in Delaware County. Gene was very active in soil and wildlife conservation, he raised quail for the State of Indiana and released them to preserve wildlife. He taught hunter safety education in Delaware County. Gene was past president and treasure of the Gaston Conservation Club. He was a 50 year member of the Matthews Masonic Lodge #650, where he was Past Master. Gene was Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patty Ann (Rowland) Strahan , whom he married July 24th , 1949; two daughters, Karen Good (Robert) of Muncie, and Diana Eason (Gregory) of Pawleys Island, SC; eight grandchildren, Chelsea King of Muncie, Kayla Gibson (Quentin) of Alaska, Shannon Stark (Steve) of Gaston, Kim Clock (Chad) of Gaston, Ben Compston (Heather) of Tiffon, OH, Matthew Strahan (Leilani) of Muncie, Elizabeth Strum (Chas) of North Port, FL, and Christine King (companion Daniel Norviel) of Anderson; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother Robert Strahan of Muncie; two sister-in-laws Lavon and Jean Strahan both of Muncie; a brother-in-law Ted Scott . In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son Barry Strahan; a daughter Sharon King; a sister Juanita Scott; two brothers William and John Strahan; a sister-in-law Jean Ann Strahan.
Funeral Services for Gene "Duke" will be held Monday, June 9th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Fights officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 8th , 2014 at the funeral home, there will be a Lodge of Sorrow service conducted by the Matthews Masonic Lodge #650 at 7:30 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer''s Association with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
