Barbara Jean Poland passed away peacefully of a broken heart on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021 after burying her husband Richard Irwin Poland 9 days ago. She was born May 15th, 1930 to Judd and Juanita Ray in Decatur, IN.
Barbara met her husband Richard Irwin Poland at Royerton High School and they were married on December 7th, 1950, 71 years together. Barb was a member of Center Chapel Church for many years, where she served in various positions through the years.
Barbara is survived by son Chris Poland of Muncie; daughter Becky Jump (Duane deceased) of Houston, TX; grandson Kelly Jump of Los Angeles, CA; step grandaughters, Stacey Lindsey (Paul Pearson), Nan Macken and Jill Bounds (Wallace) all from Houston, TX; brother Jim Ray (Joyce) of Mt. Summit; sister Janet Hahn (Bob deceased) of Knightstown. She had several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Judd and Juanita (Knodel) Ray; her husband, Richard Poland; brother, Charles Ray and his wife, Jan (Madill) Ray; brother-in-law Bob Hahn and son-in-law Duane Jump.
Barb grew up in Muncie and graduated from Royerton High School in 1948. She worked at Merchants bank as a teller, but later became a housewife and mother of two after marrying Dick. She also ran a root beer stand with her brother Charles Ray for 2 summers. Barb enjoyed sewing, knitting, croqueting, and many other craft projects. She especially enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds around the exterior of their home. She supported her children throughout all their many school activities. She and Dick enjoyed bowling, golfing, swing dancing, two-stepping, playing cards, bingo and going to the casino with their friends.
She was a member of the Alpha Tau women's sorority, Eastern Star and the Moose.
Services will be held at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N State Road 3, Muncie with visitation on Monday evening, January 3rd, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with family gathering at noon on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 with services beginning at 1:00 P.M. Barbara will be cremated and laid to rest at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Center Chapel Church, 900 W Royerton Road, Muncie IN 47303.
