Barbara E. Strauch, 96, of Muncie, IN died April 13, 2010 while at home. She was born on May 20, 1913 in Jay County, IN the daughter of Dell Elwood and Margaret (Sell) Edmundson. On September 25, 1937 in Hartford City, IN she married Henry Albert Strauch who preceded her in death in 1992.
She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church for over 68 years in Muncie, IN. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and cooking at the church. For several years she ran the church bazaar. She enjoyed making quilts. In 1928, she was on the winning Indiana School Oklahoma state championship basketball team in Holdenville, OK. She also enjoyed bowling and finished 5th for singles in a national tournament in Niagara Falls. She retired from JC Penney and also worked as an interior painter for several residences in Delaware County.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Thomas E. Strauch (Barbara) of Muncie, IN; T. Lee Strauch of Muncie, IN; Gary E. Strauch (Joyce) of Glendale, AZ; two sisters and two brothers, Lillian Jordan of Yorktown, IN; Almeda Smith of Pendleton, IN; Dell Edmundson (Adie) of St. Paul, Minnesota; Ben Edmundson of Muncie, IN; seven grandchildren, Jill Annett Cody of Raleigh, NC; Melissa Ann Whiteman (Peter) of Acton, GA; Amy Lynne Strauch of Muncie, IN; Trent Allen Strauch (Lisa) of Tampa, FL; Eric Dwight Strauch (Katina) of Muncie, IN; Drew Aaron Strauch (Monica) of Land of the Lakes, FL; Brett Ashley Strauch (Elisabeth) Atlanta, GA; 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Friday April 16, 2010 at Riverside United Methodist Church 1201 N. Wheeling Muncie, IN. Rev. Dr. John A. Young will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, IN. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Riverside United Methodist Church.
