Benny Lee Thorpe, 79, of Muncie, died early Wednesday morning, March 28, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born February 13, 1939 in Hazard, KY and was the son of the late Garland & Ella (Smith) Thorpe.

Benny was the owner of Thorpe Maintenance and had proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He loved country music and socializing on the front porch. Benny was a family man whom loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan.

Benny is survived by his wife of 48 years Lawrencene June Thorpe (Duncan) of Muncie; two sons Jeffrey Thorpe (Melody) of Hagerstown, MD and Craig Thorpe of Muncie; a daughter Celena C. Cota (Lance) of Muncie; six grandchildren Krystena Harker (Jim), Benjamin Cota, Chase Thorpe, Paige Thorpe, Travis Thorpe and Tracy Burges; three great-grandchildren Daisy Harker, Kalaya and Kaden Burges; a sister Connie Thorpe of Hazard, KY and a brother Sam Thorpe of Hazard, KY. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Martha Maggard and Alma Lee Thorpe.

Burial with military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the Delaware County Honor Guard following in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
