Bertha Lee Burrell, 88, of Muncie, passed away at 2:44 pm, on February 4, 2026, in her home.  She was born in Lebanon, Kentucky, on January 10, 1938, to John L. and Lillian Groves.  She married Dennis Burrell on June 25, 1977, who survives.

She graduated from Muncie Central High School and later worked cleaning homes for over 20+ years.  She was a member of the True Vine Church of Muncie.

Bertha enjoyed cooking and baking, no one made a better peach cobbler than her.  She enjoyed the scenery of traveling to see family in Kentucky and even made a trip to Jamaica too.  Bertha spent a lot of time caring for her precious grandchildren and hosting family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dennis; children, Angela (James) Cork, Howard Burrell, Retha Barnes, Calandra Hill, Elaine Burrell, and Rebecca Burrell; sister, Frances Thompson; 17 grandchildren; a plethora of great and great-great grandchildren; special friend, Portia Shoecraft; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt and uncle, Moses "Papaw" (Retha) Scott; and brother, Boyce Groves.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, February 20, 2026, at True Vine Church, 1219 E. Willard St., Muncie, Indiana, 47302.

A service celebrating Bertha's life will follow at 11:00 am with Bishop Sloss.

Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
