Obituary

Bill James Cordle of Muncie, Indiana passed away at home at the age of 89 the afternoon of Monday, May 31, 2021. He was born on August 15, 1931 in Flatwoods, Kentucky to the late James Henry and Nellie Mae (Wilburn) Cordle.

Bill met the love of his life, Ruby Mae Craig. They married in Muncie, Indiana on July 24, 1953. He served in the United States Army in the Korea Theater during the Korean Conflict. He worked for General Motors for 30 years until his retirement in 1989. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed playing golf and holds a course record at Maplewood Golf Course in Muncie, where he assisted in the original design of the course. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He coached baseball in Selma, Indiana in the sixties. He was a 50-year member of the Selma American Legion.

Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Ruby Mae (Craig) Cordle; son, Marty James Cordle of Brooksville, Florida; daughters, Carolyn Kiyoma Walters, Marsha Hammond (Rodney), and Tammy L. Stotler, all of Muncie, Indiana; brothers, Paul Cordle of Shirley, Indiana and Ron Cordle of Flatwoods, Kentucky; sister, Mary Griffith of Stockbridge, Georgia; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry and Nellie Mae (Wilburn) Cordle; brothers, Virgil, Ted, and Richard Cordle; sisters, Okie Metz, Viola Lowery, Martha Fortune, and Shirley Stanley; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie with funeral services immediately following at 5:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, officiated by Dale Trego and with Military Honors. Graveside services and burial will take place on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie, officiated by Steve Graves. COVID-19 Limitations: Effective Monday, February 8, 2021, Garden View Funeral Home and Gardens of Memory Cemetery are limited to a maximum of 50 people wearing masks inside or outside.
