Billie J. Hughes, 72, of Muncie, IN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday March 24, 2012 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was born on January 23, 1940 in Smithtown, KY the son of Leslie and Tona (New) Hughes. On April 27, 1957 he married Bettie (Downs) Hughes, who preceded him in death in 2008. Billie was a loving father and grandfather. He was an active member of the Bethel United Baptist Church and a faithful servant of the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, camping and rebuilding classic cars. He retired from AB&B. Surviving relatives include four children, three sons, Billie Joe Hughes, Jr. of Gaston, IN; Walter Allen Hughes (Tina) of Muncie, IN; Todd Hughes (Christina) of Muncie, IN; one daughter, Toni Blanchard (Phil) of Muncie, IN; three brothers, Darrel Hughes (Helen) of Muncie, IN; Paul Hughes (Bettie) of Muncie, IN; Bruce Hughes (Christine) of Florida; two sisters, Audrey Stevens of Marion, IN; Ava Keith (Pascal) of Ft. Mitchell, KY; a dear family member, Leslie Hughes of Muncie, IN; twelve grandchildren, Matthew, Kayle, William, Anson, Nathaniel, Bre, Hunter, Isabella, Alexandra, Isaac, Hunter, and Bryson. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 28, 2012 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Hoyt Davis will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
