Billy Joe Harter, 61, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 18, 1949 in Richmond, IN, to Geraldine (Wagner) Harter and the late Donald Harter. Bill is a 1967 graduate of Muncie Central High School. Bill proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 19691971.
Bill was employed at General Motors for 33 ½ years before retiring in 2001. Bill was a member of the Muncie Moose; American Legion; and Serenity Club. Bill also enjoyed fishing, bowling, swimming, and playing Texas Hold''em.
Bill is survived by his living mother, Geraldine Harter of Noblesville; 6 children: SFC Robert Harter (wife, DeAndra) of Fort Jackson, SC; April Neal (husband, Brad) of Redkey; Pamela Wilson of Indianapolis; Amanda Shadoan (husband, Kendrick) of Muncie; Joseph Blackmer (wife, Melissa) of Gaston; and Jeffery Blackmer (wife, Connie) of Johnson Creek, WI; 3 sisters: Karen Piner (husband, Phil) of Muncie; Lynda Newhouse (husband, Rich) of Wichita, KS; and Kathy Calamusa (husband, Joe) of Noblesville; 14 grandchildren: Zane Harter; Paige Sanchez; Tyler New; Jacob Harter; Aaron Neal; Nicholas Neal; Rebekah Shadoan; Isabelle Shadoan; Nathan Shadoan; Brandon Blackmer; Kyleigh Blackmer; Makayla Blackmer; Nicholas Blackmer; and Kellie Blackmer; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Donald Harter and grandson Cory New.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie as well as on Thursday, January 27, 2011 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Thursday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military honors provided by the Veterans of Delaware County. Memorial contributions may be made upon the donor''s choice.
