Obituary

Buddie (Bud) Lewis Jones, Sr. , 84, of Muncie, IN passed away on Jan. 21, 2026 peacefully in his home surrounded by family.

The top priorities of Bud's life were God and family, respectively.  He spent hours reading and studying God's Word.  He served faithfully as a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church in Muncie, IN.  When asked how he was doing, he would often say, "Better than I deserve."

For years, he faithfully delivered meals to those in need through Meals on Wheels of Muncie. His thirst to know God never waned.

Bud served in the United States Navy from 1959 – 1962 with the majority of his service on the USS Kitty Hawk - CV63. He was a plank owner due to commissioning and decommissioning of the USS Kitty Hawk. One of his biggest pleasures was sharing his experiences while in the Navy. After the Navy, Bud worked at Maxon for 37 years as an engineer and an IT professional. There was never a project or problem he could not handle.

His wife, Sharon, of almost 63 years, was his one and only true love. He cherished her. He was a wonderful example of how a man should treat his wife. Not a day passed without him showing affection and professing his love for his bride. His children were witnesses to such devotion.

He loved his three children and helped them to become responsible, respectful adults. He worked hard and made many sacrifices to provide for and be present in his children's lives. He never took credit for their successes but expressed how he was "well-pleased" with them. There was never a doubt that he loved his family.

He was no stranger to setting goals and achieving them. He became a private pilot, he learned karate, he was a scuba diver, enjoyed riding motorcycles, and was very good at do-it-yourself projects. You knew if Bud set his mind on a task, it was going to be done right and done well. He had a sharp mind and quick wit.

The final year of Bud's life was not an easy one, but he faced it bravely with courage and with humor. He often expressed gratitude for his faithful wife by his side. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched in his 84 years. "Well done, thy good and faithful servant!"

Bud is survived by his wife Sharon Jones; daughter, Sharlene Utz (Roger); son, Buddie Jones Jr (Elizabeth); daughter, Jennifer Bowers (Russ); grandchildren, Dreama Jones, Quinn Jones, Sharla Angulo (Eric), Josiah Utz, Micah Utz, and Andrew Bowers; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bud is preceded in death by his father, James Jones; mother, Cora (Tuck) Jones; brothers, LB Jones and Jim Jones.
