Obituary

Calvin M. Ley, former pastor of the First United Church of Christ
in Bluffton for 25 years, passed on to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon at age 84. Calvin Ley served as pastor of First UCC
in Bluffton, IN from 1966-1991, and lived near Yorktown, IN during his retirement. He recently resided at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. Before the Bluffton church, Calvin served as pastor
of a two-church charge in Portage, Wisconsin from 1953 - 1957, then later served as pastor of St. Paul UCC in West Burlington, IA from 1957 - 1966.
Calvin was born on November 30, 1928 in Saint Bernard, OH, and lived there until the age of 8, when he moved to the Mission House College campus, in Sheboygan, WI, where his father was Dean of Men. He graduated from Plymouth High School, Plymouth, WI, then received a B.A. degree from Lakeland College near Sheboygan, WI in 1950, and a divinity degree from Mission House Seminary at that same location in 1953. Calvin was ordained in 1953 by his three older brothers, Dr.
Ralph Ley, Rev. Ray Ley, and Rev. Harold Ley, who all precede him. Calvin, in his 60 years of ministry, served God, and compassionately outreached to others throughout his lifetime.
Calvin is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Ley, in assisted living at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle; three children, son Wayne (Kathy) Ley of Huntington, daughter Barbara (Bill) Ley Broyles of Eaton, and son Bruce (Teresa) Ley of Ossian;
seven grandchildren, Aaron (Brissa Castillo) Ley and David (Leah) Broyles both of Noblesville, Andrew (Stephenie) Ley of Roanoke, Jonathan (Jessica) Broyles of Knox, Jennifer Ley of Bluffton, Allissa (Jared) Ley McMullen of Green Bay, WI, and Rebecca Ley of West Palm Beach, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Gabriolle Castillo, Elliot Broyles, and Eliana McMullen; sister Dorothea Evans of Palo Alto, CA.
His love and humor will be deeply missed by his family.
Friends may call on Tuesday September 24, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at the Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. Indiana 3, Muncie. Funeral services for Calvin will be held on Wednesday September 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eden Church 11205 N. Indiana 3, Muncie, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Jim Behrendt will be officiating.
