Obituary

Carl W. Young, age 85, of Muncie, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born February 13, 1922 in Morrison, Tennessee to the late John Hopkins and Mary Ella (Champion) Young. In 1979 he retired from Borg Warner Corporation in Muncie after 33 years of service. He had also worked at Kaiser Tool and Die prior to entering the Air Force where he supervised servicing of B25 Bombers while stationed in India and was Crew Chief and Staff Sergeant.
He and his wife Jewel, promoted gospel sings for 35 years and had a Sunday morning Gospel Radio Program for 17 years at WERK. The CYS family sang in revivals and concerts throughout the mid-west.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Muncie.
Survivors include his wife: Jewel Young whom he married in April of 1946; children: Beverly (husband Gary) Kibbey of Indianapolis, Shirley (husband: Darrel) Herring of Westfield, Judy (husband: Greg) Collett of Middletown and Randy (wife: Ginger) Young of Greenfield; six grandchildren: Aaron Herring, Jennifer M. Kibbey, Yardley Collett, Cameron Herring, Marin Young and Caris Young; a sister: Edith (husband: Don) Shroyer of Muncie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Ray Young, Hoyte Young, Pauline Winnett and Ruby Hayes.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Darrel Herring officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Muncie.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 at the funeral home.
