Carol J. (Verbrugge) Elser, 70, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital, after an extended illness.
She was born January 29, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Opal and Clifford Winn.
Carol graduated in 1957 from St. Joseph's High School in Shawnee, Kansas and was a 1981 graduate of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and then in 1985 she received a Masters of Art Degree from Ball State University. She was a dedicated elementary classroom teacher for thirteen years.
Also, Carol was an instructor for Sylvan Learning Center in Muncie for thirteen years. Mrs. Elser was a reading specialist and taught many students reading.
Survivors include her husband of twenty and one half years, Phillip Elser; children, John Verbrugge; Joseph Verbrugge, (wife-Linda); Jerry Verbrugge, (wife-Jenny); Jamie Verbrugge, (wife-Christina); Phil Elser, (wife-Pam); Lisa Knox, (husband-Dwight), and Laura Elser; siblings, Pat Ravey, (husband-John); Gary Winn, (wife-Carol); Greg Winn, (wife-Jamie) and Susan Bailey; grandchildren, Ben; Emily; Rae; Erin; Dustin; Danielle; David; Trevor and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; a brother; aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father John Kiefer officiating.
Internment will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, IN.
Family and friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time at church on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
