Carol Jean Smith passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Muncie, IN where she had resided for several months.
Jean was born July 11, 1919 in Burlington, IN to Roy and Ethel Haun. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1937. She married Jess Smith on May 10, 1946 and they continued to live in Burlington until 1953 when they moved to Michigantown, IN. While living in Michigantown, Jean enjoyed working at the Clinton County Bank in Frankfort, IN until her retirement in 1982, when she and Jess moved to Muncie, IN so they could be closer to their grandchildren. Jean spent many happy hours being "Grandma Jeanie", volunteering at Minnetrista Cultural Center and participating in activities at Hazelwood Christian Church where she was a member.
Jean was loved dearly and will be missed greatly by her daughter, Tina Swackhamer; her grandchildren Todd & (Melissa) Swackhamer, (Mike) & Kristin Schumacher, and Kylene Swackhamer; her great-grandchildren Maddy & Eli Swackhamer, Emma Schumacher, and Amarah McPhaul; and a nephew Phil Haun. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jess, her brother Howard Haun and her parents.
Services will be held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, IN with Reverend Colby Smith officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Ave., Muncie, IN 47303.
