Charles L. Atchley, Jr., 85, of Muncie, Indiana, died Tuesday March 6, 2012 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN. He was born on April 3, 1926 in Bowling Green, KY the son of Charles Leonard, Sr. and Minnie (Best) Atchley. He graduated from Royerton High School in 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1966 he married Myma Jean (Reed) Atchley who preceded him in death in 2007.
Charles loved his church family at Westside Church of Christ in Yorktown, IN. He was a private pilot and a wiz on the computer. He enjoyed playing the steel guitar and motor sports. He retired from Borg Warner as a pipefitter.
Surviving relatives include one son, Richard Atchley (Trudy) of Gaston, IN; two daughters, Teresa Holloway (John) of Tennessee; Vikki Heavenridge (Randy) of Muncie, IN; two sisters, Dorothy Cooper (Virgil) of Muncie, IN; Betty Topper of Kokomo, IN; two sisters-in-law, Chris Johnson of Anderson, IN; Carolyn Atchley of Muncie, IN; one brother-in-law, Travis Reed of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Tammy, Rick Jr., Megan, Jon, Randy Jr. all of Muncie, IN; LaTasha and Jackie of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren, Brock and Trayton of Muncie, IN; Steven, Delia, and Chase of Tennessee. Also surviving are four special friends, Mike Snyder, Brian Huffman, Joyce Bennett, and Richard Messer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother James Atchley.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 10, 2012 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, IN. Military rites will be provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard. Pastor Larry Reynolds will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Westside Church of Christ or to the American Alzheimer''s Association.
