Charles Ernest Clairday, 83, of Selma, died early Monday morning, February 23rd, 2015 at his residence in Selma. He was born April 29th, 1931 in Metropolis, IL and was the son of James L. & Lucy Clairday.
Charles loved fishing, woodworking, watching old westerns, and his four dogs. He loved to play cards and getting out and being around people. Charles proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Selma and the Odd Fellow Lodge.
Charles is survived by his three daughters, Jessica Edwards (Rex McCoy) of Selma, Debborah Bradley of Muncie, and Rebecca Cartwright of Muncie; two sisters, Mattie Swartz of Shideler and Vickie Valentine of Hartford City; three grandchildren, Amber Posocco (Daniel) of Redkey, Monica Clairday of Redkey, and Chris Clairday (Crystal) of Daleville, and ten great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Deborah Clairday Engle of Redkey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; a son William Clairday; two son-in-law''s Keith Cartwright and Scott Bradley, and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services for Charles will be held Tuesday, March 3rd , 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Evangelist Doris Westerman officiating. Burial with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy and the Delaware County Honor Guard will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
