IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Arthur
Craig
November 20, 1934 – February 28, 2025
Charles A. Craig, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 28, 2025.
Charles was born on November 20, 1934, to Harold and Edna Craig. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1952 and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting from Ball State University in 1956, becoming a Certified Public Accountant. In October 1956, he married the love of his life, Barbara J. Wyrick, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.
His career began at JCPenney in 1957 before he transitioned to an accounting role at Chrysler Corporation in 1958. He later joined Haskins & Sells in 1961 and became a partner at R.J. Whitinger Co. from 1965 to 1976. An entrepreneur at heart, Charles founded C&G Recreational Center in 1972 and co-owned G&G Oil Co. from 1975 to 1983. In 1984, he joined Ontario Corporation as treasurer over CDS Engineering and Pyromet Industries Divisions, retiring in 2002. He then worked at Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort in Tucson, Arizona, until his final retirement in 2007.
Charles was deeply devoted to his family, always supporting them and creating cherished memories. He loved taking his family on trips across the western U.S., including multiple visits to Hawaii. His favorite destination was the family cottages at Carp Lake, Michigan, where he spent summers throughout his life, teaching his children and grandchildren to water ski and enjoying time on the water.
Christmas was one of Charles' greatest joys—he would begin decorating his home and yard in late October, lighting up the season for all to enjoy on Thanksgiving night. He and his wife shared a passion for gardening, creating beautiful landscapes together, and enjoyed antiquing as a beloved pastime. A longtime member of DeSoto United Methodist Church, Charles found fulfillment in supporting his church and family.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara J. Craig; son, Michael L. Craig (wife Brenda); daughter, Sherrie L. Palmer; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edna Craig; his daughter, Beth Anne Craig; brothers, Robert Craig and John Craig; and sister, Martha J. Stivers.
A viewing will be held at Gardens of Memory on Saturday March 8th, 2025 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DeSoto United Methodist Church.
