Charles F. Michael, 86, of Hartford City, IN, passed away Saturday, December 05, 2009 at Golden Living in Muncie. He was born on February 24, 1923 in Marion, IN to the late Ulva "Doc" and Hazel (Lucas) Michael. On May 7, 1948, he married the love of his life, Mary Whitaker.
Charles is a 1941 graduate of Roll High School, Roll, IN. He played for the Roll Red Roller basketball team from 1938-1941. He later entered the Navy and served his country as an Electrician''s Mate Second for the US Coast Guard from 1943-1946. Charles was also an IN and OH licensed auctioneer, auctioning from 1946-2003. He was also a real estate agent. Work also lead Charles to be a transmission tester for Borg Warner. He was employed there for 44 years. He also served as the Local 287 President for 12 years. Charles also belonged to the Midwest Field Trial Association.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Michael; son Charlie F. Michael, Jr. (fianc: Lisa Beaty) of Muncie; daughter Sarona "Sue" Clark of Muncie; grandchildren: Michael W. Clark and Wade D. Clark (wife: Christy); great-grandchildren: Daisha Clark and Miranda Buck; and great-great grandson Gavin Hoyt.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Allen Michael and Jess Michael; and sister Lavonna Vinson.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie, IN. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie.
