Charles Darwin Robertson, 83, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010 at The Woodlands in Muncie. He was born on February 21, 1927 in Muncie to the late Charles Merle and Zora Ellen (Cross) Robertson. Darwin is a 1944 graduate of Muncie Central High School. On March 24, 1962 he married Mary Magdalene Hillman in Muncie.
While still in high school Darwin worked at Muncie''s post office. He later entered the U.S. Army and served from 19441946. Upon being discharged, Darwin returned to work at the post office and continued for 39 years before retiring in 1983. Darwin was also co-founder and manager of the post office credit union for 30+ years before retiring in 2003. Besides being a hard worker, Darwin had a good sense of humor; was a handyman in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical matters; was an avid baseball fan; and an avid IU basketball fan. Darwin was a member of Delaware 46 Masonic Lodge, the Indianapolis Scottish Rite, the York Rite, and the Murat Shrine.
Darwin is survived by his children: William W. Everett (wife, Char) of Gaston; Joanna S. Steinsultz (husband, Ed) of Clarksville, TN; David D. Robertson (wife, Ellen) of Hartford City; Melanie D. McDaniel (the late John) of Muncie; and step-daughter Kim Cummings of Marion, IN; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents; wife Maggie of 39 years; and infant son Darrell W. Robertson.
Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, has been entrusted with arrangements. Upon Darwin''s request, private services will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor''s choice.
