Cheryl Ann Thompson, 55, of Gaston passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. She
was born on August 1, 1969 in Marion, Indiana to Helen (Bouchard) and Stephen Small. Cheryl
lived each of her days grounded in her faith and guided by her favorite Bible verse;
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Her trust in God
shaped how she loved, cared, and served those around her.
Cheryl dedicated her life to caring for others. She earned her Licensed Practical Nurse
(LPN) degree in 2001 and devoted her career to helping others. Over the years, Cheryl worked
in many different roles in the healthcare field, always bringing warmth, patience, and
professionalism to those in her care. She most recently served as an Education Director at
Westminster Village in Muncie, where she taught CNA, CPR and First Aid classes, helping to
shape the next generation of caregivers.
Cheryl was previously married to Jeff Kern Sr., and together they had three children:
Jeff, Matt, and Amanda. She was later married to Robert Sprong, who preceded her in death.
On July 16, 2016; Cheryl married Curt Thompson. Their marriage was a true partnership,
respect, and deep affection. Together they created a warm and loving home in Gaston. Cheryl
and Curt enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and supporting one another through
every season of life. Curt was her steady companion, best friend, and greatest encourager.
Cheryl was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. She is survived by her
Father: Stephen Small of Florida, her Sister: Lynn Hayes of Jonesboro, her Brother: David
(Danielle) Small of Huntington, her Husband: Curt Thompson of Gaston, her Daughter: Amanda
(Konrad) Nowak of Maroa, Illinois, her Sons: Matt (Kayla) Kern of Upland and Jeff Kern of
Muncie, her beloved Grandchildren: Rebecca Kern, Addelyn Kern, Jocelyn Kern, Blake Sprong,
Norbert Nowak and her Nieces: Sierra Small, Savannah Small, and Adrianna Small. Her In-
laws: Charles (Linda) Thompson [Parents], Chris (Nikki) Thompson [Brother] and Nieces:
Christy (Jacob) Lawrence, Natalie (Nick) Keys,and Caitlyn Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her Mother: Helen Small, her Granddaughter: Nayeli
Yops, and her former husband: Robert Sprong.
Cheryl will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, strong faith, and unwavering
love for those around her. Family welcome friend and family to a visitation on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 11:00 until   the  memorial service to honor Cheryl's life will be held at 1pm on
Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Garden of Memories in Muncie, Indiana.
