Chester Melvin, Jr., 82, of Muncie, died late Thursday evening, September 10, 2015 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born December 12th, 1932 in Wurtland, KY and was the son of the late Chester, Sr. & Linda (Mead) Melvin.
Chester retired from Dayton Walther after 35 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed working on cars and his home. Chester loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Chester is survived by his daughter Debra J. Duncan (Jeffery Utsler) of Muncie; four grandson''s Hubert "Bo" Duncan (Amber), Chris Duncan (Amanda), Jason Duncan (Cathy), and Chester Duncan (Melinda); fifteen great-grandchildren, Jalen, Jansen, Cierra, Caitlyn, Kaitlin, Devlin, Kacie, Chris Jr., Jasen, Alyssa, Alexia, Andrionna, Haley, Carlee, and Allanna; one-great-great granddaughter Kendall; a sister Tiny Withrow of Flatwood, KY; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Norma Melvin (Miller) on July 3rd, 2007; two brothers Charles Henry and Gary Lee Melvin; three sisters Billie Marie Maynard, Evelyn Russell, and Opal Mincehouse.
Funeral Services for Chester will be held Monday, September14th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Brunea of Compass Church officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home
