Cleatus "Pete" B. Darnell, 95, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 13, 2009, following an extended illness. At the time of his death, Mr. Darnell lived with his son and daughter-in-law near Eaton, Indiana.
Mr. Darnell was born May 7, 1913 in Wayne County, Illinois. He was the fourth son of Homer and Hattie Ellen (Stine) Darnell.
He moved to Sulphur Springs, Indiana in 1929, where he worked on his father's farm. In 1932 he moved to the Eaton area where he worked several different jobs. He retired from Chevrolet in 1974.
Mr. Darnell was a member of Avondale Sympathy Club.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with his family and telling his many great stories.
Mr. Darnell is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cleatus E. "Gene" and Marcella Darnell, Eaton, IN; two daughters, Gini Barker, O'Fallon, MO, and Carolyn Helm, Muncie; an adopted son, Robert Darnell, Muncie; a son-in-law, Gerald E. "Jerry" Johnson, Muncie; a sister-in-law, Catherine Darnell, Hartford City; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Darnell was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Violet; a daughter, Shirley Johnson; and a granddaughter, Roxanna Darnell; his parents; four brothers, Alvie, Robert, Marvil and Perle; and a sister, Maxine Wray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 in the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, Pastor John Foster officiating.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 and after 12 noon until services Thursday.
