HARTFORD CITY - Cletus J. Smeltzer, 83, died at 11:49 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2010 at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Maryland.
He was born on December 18, 1926 in Bluffton to the late Cletus M. Smeltzer and the late Edith M. (Grove) Ward.
Cletus graduated from Hartford City High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army.
He married Ruth Evelyn (Townsend) Smeltzer on July 18, 1947 in Hartford City. She precedes him in death on November 2, 1997.
Cletus retired from the Beer Company in Hartford City, he was a truck driver. He was a member of the AMVETS of Hartford City, the Moose Lodge and the Moyer-Pooler American Legion Post.
He enjoyed model railroads.
Cletus will be sadly missed by his daughter, Ann E. (husband, Steven) Moore of Hagerstown, Maryland; grandson, Jason A. (wife, Carla) Moore of Hagerstown, Maryland; great-grandchildren, Grace Elizabeth Moore and William Moore; sisters, Patricia Walker of Shelton, Washington; Martha Ann Monroe of Hartford City; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter, Mary M. Smeltzer, sister, Rose M. Swim, ½ brother, William Ward and ½ sister, Mary Louise Pulley.
Funeral service for Cletus will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St. Hartford City with Son-in-Law, Steven Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 and from 9-11 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at Keplinger Funeral Home.
