Clifton Ward Thomas, 91, of Denison, TX, formally of Gaston, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010. He was born on January 11, 1919 in Muncie to the late Arthur Ward and Syble (Sites) Thomas. Clifton is a Muncie Central High School graduate.
Clifton is also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in both the European Theatre and American Theatre of Operations. He received the American Defense Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and 2 Bronze Stars for his services. Clifton married Isabel Dunavent in February 1942 and was married for 60+ years before her passing.
Clifton worked for and retired from Fisher Body in Marion as a supervisor for 40 years. He also owned and operated T & H Plumbing and Heating. He had his pilot''s license for many years. Additionally, Clifton painted and striped parking lots for businesses as well as commercially swept them for surrounding counties. Clifton enjoyed traveling. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Muncie.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife Fae Thomas of Denison, TX; sister Patricia Terhune (husband, William) of Muncie; sister-in-law Fanny Hutson (husband, Jack) of Gaston; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Those who have passed on before Clifton include his parents; his first wife, Isabel Thomas, and seven brothers and sisters.
Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, has been entrusted with arrangements. Graveside services will be held at Jones Cemetery, Yorktown, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Military honors will be given by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard in honor of Mr. Thomas.
