Cordell H. Campbell, 86, of Muncie, was welcomed into the arms of angels in Heaven on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Campbell was born January 20, 1929 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Lowell and Maggie Campbell. He moved with his family as a child to Taylorsville, IL and attended schools there and Mt. Auburn, IL, and then in his early teens moved to Muncie and graduated from Muncie Central High School.

Mr. Campbell worked at Warner / Gear Division, Borg-Warner Corp. for 12 years and was active as an elected union official of Local 287, U.A.W.; he also served in the early 1950''s as Secretary of the Muncie Park Board for several years and served on the Muncie City council. Mr. Campbell served 23 years on the Muncie Police Department in many capacities and was assistant chief and chief of police from 1968 - 1976. He was also active as a member of the Indiana Association of Chief of Police and was elected as its Secretary in 1973 - 1982. While serving on the police department, Mr. Campbell attended and graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy with "honors" at Washington D.C. and Quantico, VA in 1969. He also was a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville, KY. Upon retirement from the police department, he was elected in the November 1982 election as Delaware County Assessor and also served as Delaware County Zoning Administrator and the Delaware County Veteran affairs officer. Mr. Campbell was elected in 1988 General Election as Delaware County Commissioner and served two years as its President. Mr. Campbell also served on Center Township Advisory Board.

Mr. Campbell is a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during WWII. He attended the Full Gospel Temple Church and is a member of the Muncie Masonic Lodge #433, the Delaware County Scottish Rite Club, Murat Shrine Club of Muncie, Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets, American Legion Post 019, F.B.I. National Academy Association of Indiana, Retired Police Officers Assoc. #87, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #231, Delaware County Democrat Rooster Boosters, Retired Indiana Public Employees Assoc., and the A.A.R.P.

Mr. Campbell is survived by his two children, Sheila Craycraft of Muncie, and Kenneth Campbell (wife Edie) of Ft. Wayne; four grandchildren, Rachael Menefee (fianc Bret Taylor) of Chicago, Adrianna Menefee (husband Nick Steuer) of Lafayette, Lara Lucas of Fort Wayne and Sean Campbell of Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Alena Lucas of Fort Wayne; two siblings, Beulah Bilbrey and Daniel Campbell, a half-brother, Clinton Zavakos; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, E. Christine Campbell; two brothers, Johnie and Hollis Campbell; and a half-brother, Cecil Asberry.

A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Campbell''s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Road 3, Muncie, with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. A Masonic Service conducted by the Muncie Masonic Lodge #433 will be held at 12:45 P.M. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
