Curtis D. Johnson, Sr., 82, of Muncie, IN, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Bethel Pointe Rehab Center. He was born on August 9, 1927 in Greenwood, MS to the late Henry and Lovie (Denton) Johnson. On November 30, 1947 he married his love, Augusta Barnes in Dundee, MS.
Curtis was employed with Broderick''s for 40 years as a trimmer. He retired in 1991. Curtis was a loyal member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Curtis is survived by his 4 loving children: Curtis Johnson, Jr. of Muncie; Dorothy Lee Johnson of Memphis, TN; Dorothy Bea Johnson of Indianapolis; and Zella Abram (husband, Joe) of Muncie; 2 sisters: Anna Mae Lang of IN; and Evert Sykes of IL; 5 brothers: Leon Johnson of TN; Eddie Johnson of TN; Clinton Johnson of MO; O.C. Johnson of MS; and J.W. Johnson of IN; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren; and several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Augusta Johnson; 2 brothers: M.C. Johnson and Ruben Johnson; and sister Lucy Hall.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 820 S. Penn, Muncie. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Aston R. Chambers, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
