Darla Lou Shields, 71, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Parkview Nursing Center. She was born on September 24, 1939 in Muncie to the late James Lawrence and Avis Cleo (Briggs) McDaniel. Darla married Russell Allen Shields in 1957 in Muncie.
Darla was a housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and loved flowers. She was also very interested in tearing apart, fixing or creating things with her hands.
Darla is survived by two sons: Russell Allen Shields, Jr. and Ricky Dean Shields, both of Muncie; four brothers: Ronald McDaniel of Florida; Merrill McDaniel (wife, Linda) of Muncie; Michael McDaniel (wife, Glenda) of Muncie; and William McDaniel (wife, Lana) of Anderson; five sisters: Julia Runyon of Muncie; Annie Keeton (husband, Herb) of Muncie; Carolyn Tuttle of Muncie; Lisa Burton (husband, Russell) of Gaston; and May Fields (husband, Argil) of Muncie; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews.
Darla was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell Shields of 43 years; three daughters: Saundra Kay, Patty Ann, and Pamela; and one brother.
Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, has been entrusted with arrangements for the family. There will be no calling hours nor funeral service per Darla''s request.
