DON'S OBITUARY
On Saturday evening March 5, 2022 Donald Eugene Hartsock passed into the arms of Jesus at IU Ball Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Don was born in Elwood IN on February 8 1947 to the late Walter and Freida Hartsock. The family moved to Pendleton Indiana during his early school years. He graduated in 1965 from Pendleton High School. His sweetheart, Brenda (Nesbit) also graduated that year and they began a 3 1/2 year courtship, marrying on November 24, 1968. Don then attended Ball Memorial Hospital School of X-Ray Technology in Muncie IN. In 1978 he was asked to fill the new position of Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist thus becoming the first Ultrasound Tech at the hospital. Don continued in that position until his retirement on June 30, 2008.
Don and Brenda enjoyed traveling and went on several trips sponsored by the hospital activity group to baseball games, shopping, Cape Cod, Washington D.C. and two cruises. That sparked a love for more cruises that took them to several Caribbean countries, Hawaii and Mexico. Three cruises were Southern Gospel music themed. Don and Brenda enjoyed that style of music and traveled locally to hear their favorite Southern Gospel singing groups. Don himself was a bass singer and was in a gospel group in the 1970's and did record an album.
Don loved the Lord and was a member of Union Chapel Ministries in Muncie. He served in several ministries at the church, his favorite being M&M'S (More Mature) where he served as emcee for the monthly meetings. He was a prior member of Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International and served as president for 3 1/2 years.
One of the biggest joys of his life was the birth of his only daughter, Julianne (Spencer). She was and is the apple of his eye. She followed in his footsteps in the medical field. The birth of two grandchildren was the icing on the cake, Trevor and Haylie Spencer. Then he became a bleacher fan attending all their sports games. Grandpa was always in the stands cheering them
Don is survived by his loving wife Brenda (Nesbit), daughter Julianne M. Spencer, Gaston IN; grandson Trevor A Spencer, Gaston IN; granddaughter Haylie M. Spencer, Chicago IL; brother Richard Hartsock, E. Moline IL and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents Walter and Frieda Hartsock, brother James Hartsock, sister-inlaw Carole Hartsock, sister-inlaw Pauline Hartsock and niece Patricia Hartsock.
Funeral services will be held at Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie IN with Pastor Glenn Greiner, Union Chapel Ministries officiating on March 16, 2022 at 2 pm with calling hours from 11 am -2 pm before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First Choice for Women, 3020 N. Oakwood Ave, Muncie IN 47304.
