Donald "Don" Sherman Mitchell, 68, died at 8:42 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Shiedler on September 25, 1940 to the late Robert O. Mitchell and the late Dorothy (Capper) Mitchell. Don graduated from Royerton High School in 1959 and served in the United States Army. He married Barbara L. (Keever) Mitchell on June 20, 1959 in Muncie.
Don retired in 2008 from Dana Corporation after 10 years of service.
He was a member of Moose Lodge and the United Steel Workers Union.
He enjoyed gardening, camping, boating, fishing, shuffle-board. He was a former Muncie Drag Racer at the Muncie Drag Strip.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara L. Mitchell of Hartford City; sons, Dennis E. (wife, Annette S.) Mitchell of Hartford City, Donnie R. Mitchell of Ft. Wayne; daughter, Barbara J. Mitchell of Ossian; grandchildren, Brandy Parker, Betty Jo Mitchell, Kevin A. Mitchell, Tiffany J. Mitchell, Brandy Mitchell, Zach Mitchell, Cody Thompson, Shawn Mitchell, Todd Mitchell, Ryan McFeely and Kristy McFeely; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Michael (wife, Linda) Mitchell of Muncie; sister, Marlene Hole of Selma, Sally A. (husband, Edward) Coats of Albany; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Kimberly A. McFeely; and brother, Allen Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High St., Hartford City.
Funeral services for Don will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2009 at Keplinger Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy Middaugh officiating.
Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN, with Graveside Military Service by the Moyer-Pooler American Legion Post.
