Donald Wayne Pence, 80 of Muncie, died Sunday morning, December 13th, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Muncie. He was born November 9th, 1935 in Montpelier and was the son of the late John E. & Harriet (Blizzard) Pence.
Donald proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He received a purple heart during his service. He was a member of the Delaware County Honor Guard as well. Donald retired from General Motors Delco Battery after 37 years as a Union Shop Chairman. He was a member of the AMVETS Post#12, American Legion Post #19, VFW, Eagles Lodge, Whitney Masonic Lodge #229, and was a 42nd Degree Shriner.
Donald is survived by his loving wife Shirley A. (Martin) Pence of Muncie; a son John Joseph Patrick Pence of Hartford City; two grandsons Donald M. Pence (Dawn) of Muncie and Jeffery J. Pence of Pittsburg, PA; two granddaughters Jamie M. Pence of Eureka, CA., and Tylenia M. Oliphant (Dustin) of Muncie; a great-grandson Tanner M. Oliphant of Muncie; a brother Jerry Hodge (Linda) of Parker City. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Joy A. Pence and a sister Nancy Walker.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 18th, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry "Hank" Hansen Jr. officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps and the Delaware County Honor Guard following the service at the funeral home on Friday. Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a Lodge of Sorrow Service conducted by the Whitney Lodge #229 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
