Dorothy Mae Johnson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, of Muncie, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at her home. She was born May 11, 1939 in Sharon, PA to William and Beatrice (Derrick) Jenkins. Dorothy was a graduate of Sharon, PA High School with the Class of 1957. She attended Youngstown State University and later graduated from Ball State University in 1975 with an Associate Degree in Business.
She married Gordon C. Johnson on February 4, 1961 in Hermitage, PA. She worked at Ball State University for over 20 years until she retired in 2004 as the Administrative Coordinator in the Chemistry Dept. Dorothy was an active member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Muncie and enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She and Gordon were members of a personal group of friends called The Pinochle Club for 50 years.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Gordon; daughters, Barbara Ingelhart (husband James) of Cedar Lake, IN and Beth Erskine (husband Gary) of Pendleton, IN; brother, Albert Jenkins (wife Christene) of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Kara Ingelhart of Bloomington, IN, Kelsey Ingelhart of Cedar Lake, and Megan Truesdale of Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 2700 W. Moore Road, Muncie, IN 47304 with Rev. Melodie Wager officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Muncie. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, January 29 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday. The family requests memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to IU Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research, P.O. Box 660245, Indianapolis, IN 46266 or St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
