Dorothy (McMichael) Ledbetter, 84 of Muncie, passed away Friday morning, January 13, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Muncie after fighting Alzheimer''s for many years. She was born February 27, 1932 in Muncie and was the daughter of the late Everett Ernest & Atha (Myers) McMichael.
Most of Dorothy''s career was spent in the medical field. She worked at Ball Memorial Hospital in medical records, transcribing doctor''s dictation. She worked for Dr. Burwell & Dr. Nelson in Muncie for many years. She went back to school and got her nursing license as a LPN at the age of 49. Dorothy worked at Ball Memorial Hospital in the critical care unit. After retiring, she became involved in line dancing and became an instructor. She belonged to the singing group in Muncie called Third Age until Alzheimer''s caused her to struggle remembering the songs.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Ernie McMichael and her four children: Debbie (Topper) Pittman ( husband Charlie); Carole Topper, Dennis Topper and Jerry Ledbetter( wife Brook) all from Muncie; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She had several generations of nieces and nephews, but the one she had a special bond with was her niece, Cindy (Foster) Rector. Dorothy is preceded in death by her sister Mary Ella (McMichael) Foster; a brother Earl McMichael; a brother who died in infancy, James David McMichael and a grandson Jeffrey Scott Pittman.
Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
