Doyne Eugene "Shorty" McCammon, 83, of Muncie, IN, passed away Monday, July 20, 2009 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on August 14, 1925 in Terre Haute, IN to the late Roy and Mary E. (Hill) McCammon. On April 4, 1948 he married the love of his life, Edna Brock, in Morganfield, KY.
He graduated from Francisco High School. He served in the Army Air Corp in 1945. Doyne was employed by Warner Gear for 39 years as a grinder and retired in 1987. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Washington, IN for nearly 60 years, was a past member of the Eagles in Muncie and Anderson, and also a past member of the Masonic Lodge in New Burlington, IN. He was a union steward for the Local #287. Doyne participated with the Muncie Lanes Senior Citizens bowling, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting.
Surviving relatives include his loving wife of 61 years, Edna McCammon; three daughters, Theresa Hart (husband: George) of Muncie, IN; Denisa Roderick (husband: Mike) of Muncie, IN; and Melisa Grinnen (husband: Brad) of Indianapolis, IN; sister Helen Sheppard of Terre Haute, IN; 6 grandchildren, Tina Quate; Jayson Roderick; Michael Hart; Jeremy Roderick; Tiffany Webb; and Brittany Webb; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special nephew Jerry Lawson.
Doyne was preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Houghton; sister Eula Lawson; half-sister Jane Adams; brother Robert McCammon; and half-brother David Houghton.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie, IN. Pastor Lane Fairchild will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie. Doyne will be honored with military rites at the cemetery provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
