Edith Mae Beaty, 87, passed away Wednesday morning, February 6, 2008 at Muncie Health Care Center.
She was born September 18, 1920 in Byrdstown, Tennessee, the daughter of Martha Ellen (Pierce) Ferrell and Joe Buchanan Ferrell. Edith grew up in Tennessee and graduated from Pickett County High School in 1938. She married Arnie Beaty on November 26, 1938 and they moved to the Muncie area in 1941. Edith worked at Ball Brothers during WW II and then at Ball Memorial Hospital for 27 years as an L.P.N., and retired in 1983. She was a member of Cowan Christian Church and enjoyed making quilts and working in her garden. Survivors include her daughter, Kathryn "Kay" Cox, (husband-Michael), Springport; two brothers, Joseph H. Ferrell, (wife-Rosie), Huntsville, Alabama and Charles Ferrell, (wife-Ruth), Byrdstown, Tennessee; two sisters, Alta Davidson, Pompano Beach, Florida and Brenda Smith, (husband-Beecher), Byrdstown, Tennessee; two granddaughters, Nicole Cox, Springport, (and her fianc- David Broyles, New Castle) and Nora Stewart, (husband-David), Indianapolis and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnie Beaty, who passed away May 4, 2001; one brother, Ezra Ferrell and four sisters, Ella Whitted; Wanda Cowan; Daisy Maynard and Vera Conatser. Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Matthew Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
