Elizabeth F. Rakes, age 87, of Muncie, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Lynd House with her loving son at her side. She was born December 12, 1924 in Muncie to Clyde E. and Valley M. (Perry) Ritchie. Elizabeth was a homemaker and longtime member of Eaton First Church of God. She loved to collect ladybug items and crochet. In her youth she was an avid roller skater. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Elizabeth married Byron L. Rakes and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2001. She is survived by her son, Bill Rakes, of Oak Park, IL and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Jack, Paul and Ward Ritchie, her sister, Rosemary Zahm, and her godson, Richard Lear.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, IN 47303 with Pastor Andy Denniston officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Eaton First Church of God.
