Ernest William Rhodes, 95, of Muncie, IN, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at his residence. He was born on February 20, 1914 in Dry Fork, WV to the late Lark and Ida (Keplinger) Roy.
Ernest married the love of his life, Mildred "Lorene" Nunley on December 29, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN. Ernest was a steelworker and worked for Brodricks Company for 33 years, retiring in 1982.
Ernest was a hard worker; loved to fish and hunt; enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening; loved to travel; and thoroughly loved and enjoyed his family and grandchildren. Ernest attended Northside Assembly of God in Muncie.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Rhodes; 8 children: Judy Tabor (husband, Rodger) of West Virginia; Sue Holloway (husband, Simon) of Ossian, IN; Sandy Case (husband, Richard) of Muncie; Mary Stout (husband, Ron) of Muncie; Cathie Martz (husband, Ron) of Muncie; Nancy Johnson (husband, Steve) of Muncie; William Rhodes (wife, Donna) of Muncie; and Penny Clark (husband, David) of Muncie; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 4 sisters; son-in-law James Case; grandson David Clark, Jr.; and mother-in-law Mary Moore.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd 3, Muncie, IN. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
