Ernest L. "Ernie" Sutton, 81, passed away Saturday evening, December 25, 2010, at Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born January 20, 1929, in Muncie, the son of Ollie May (Heston) Sutton and Logan Sutton. Ernie lived his entire life in the Muncie area. He graduated from Muncie Central High School and Indiana Central University. Mr. Sutton retired from the City of Muncie Police Department in July of 1969. He was employed in the trucking industry several years after retiring from the police department. Ernie enjoyed golfing and was a former member of Crestview Golf Course and the Moose Lodge. Mr. Sutton was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from Oct. 11, 1945 until Oct. 29, 1947 and a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from May 1, 1951 until Dec. 4, 1952.
Survivors include his wife, Judy (Hoppes) Sutton, Muncie; three children, LeeAnn Barnard, (husband-Lynn), Muncie; David Sutton, (wife-Lorrie), Chesterfield and Jamie Hurst, (husband-Greg), Muncie; and two grandchildren, Tessa Barnard and Haley Sutton.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brock Barnard; his parents; and two brothers.
Services will be held 12:00 noon, Wednesday, December 29, 2010, in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Steve Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie, with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, or after 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
