Dunkirk - Francis Johnson, 89, formerly of Dunkirk, IN, passed away at 10:58 p.m., Friday, June 18th, while in the company of family members, at Morrison Woods Health Campus, Muncie, IN.
Francis was born in Portland, IN on March 17, 1921, a son of the late Ida (Taylor) and Elva Johnson. He was a 1939 graduate of Redkey High School.
He served in the U.S. Army, where he received three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star.
He retired as a Hot End Supervisor at Kerr Glass/St. Gobain Dunkirk, IN, after 40 years.
Francis was a member of Pennville Church of the Brethren Pennville, IN.
He was a former member of FGB&P Local 121 Half Way Masonic Lodge, Redkey, for over 50 years. He also was a member of the Dunkirk Lions Club, American Legion Post 227 for 63 years, a member of Portland DAV and Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne.
Francis is survived by a daughter, Debbie F., wife of Stephen, Dorste, of Selma, IN; a son, Tommy R., husband of Shireen, Johnson, of Fairview, IN.
He is also survived by four (4) grandchildren, Ryan Johnson of Fishers, IN, Amy Price, husband Ty, of Pendleton, IN, Mike Dorste, wife Diane, of Coraopolis, PA and Todd Dorste, wife Christie, of Imperial, PA and six (6) great grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife, Kathleen White, in 1998; and three sisters, Margaret Moon, Treva Johnson, and Wanda Johnson.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at MJS Mortuaries- Dunkirk.
Funeral services will be held at MJS Mortuaries- Dunkirk Chapel, Dunkirk, IN, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23rd, with Pastor Earl Doll and Pastor Don Wright officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted by Ralph Burgess, Post 227 Dunkirk, IN.
Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Muncie, IN.
Memorials may be given to charity of the donors choice or Ralph Burgess, Post 227.
