Frank A. Chambers, Jr., 92, of Muncie, died Friday evening December 18th, 2015 at Morrison Woods Health Campus. He was born June 4th, 1923 in Tipton, IN and was the son of the late Frank A. Chambers, Sr. and Lela E. (Chappell) Chambers.
Frank was a very proud veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII as a Tank Commander with the 735th Tank Battalion. He was honored by the French Legion and Ford Motor Company presented him with the "Ford Oval of Honor" for his honorable service to our country. Frank published a book "WWII From An Open Door Turret Hatch". He appeared in a WWII documentary featured by PBS and the History Channel. Frank graduated from Indiana Business College with a degree in accounting. He retired from the Railroad as a yard master after 31 years of service in 1976. Frank had a personal accounting business and is part owner of Premier Label. He sang bass in the Magic City Music Men Chorus and the Harmony Chiefs Quartet.
Frank is survived by his wife Evelyn J. (Dragoo) Chambers of Muncie; a son Jeffrey Chambers of Muncie; three daughters Connie Goen of Muncie, Nancy Trammell (Dave) of Martinsville, and Karen Scantland (Mark) of Muncie; nine grandchildren Traci Lykins (Gary) of Anderson, Travis Goen (Amanda) of Muncie, Ryan Goldsberry of Mooresville, Evan Goldsberry of Fishers, Michael Scantland of Jacksonville, OR, Christy Lytle (Jimmy) of Hartford City, Bryan Scantland of Mountlake Terrace, WA, Joshua Chambers of Terre Haute, and Jordon Chambers of Aspen, CO.; eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Joan M. (Butts) Chambers in 1997. Seven sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home with Rev. William Clayton officiating. Inurnment will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Delaware County Honor Guard at the funeral home on Tuesday. Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, December 21st, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Indiana Honor Flight with envelopes provided at the funeral home.
