Obituary

Fritz Schnepf Jr., 92, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Fritz was born May 8, 1931 to Fritz Schnepf (Sr.) and Esther Schnepf (both deceased). He was also preceded in death by brother-in-laws Bill Endres and Earl DeRiter, and niece Sheri Switzer.

Shortly after he was born the family moved to a farm near Flora, Indiana. He graduated High School in 1949 and then from Purdue University in 1953. He then served in the U.S. Army until 1955. After coming home, he and Annette Hinkle, who he first met on a school bus when they were still in grade school, were married that same year.

After selling farm and elevator equipment and supervising its installation over two states for 13 years, Fritz and Annette along with their two children came to Delaware County in 1968. They came to serve the farmers of this area by enlarging the grain elevator at Shideler. They immediately joined and became active members in nearby Eden Church where he served on several different committees, including the trustees and the one designing and building the new addition. Along with this, he was an active member of the Agribusiness Council of Indiana where he chaired many  committees over the years and then was elected to a term as president of that statewide grain dealers group. As an avid sailor, Fritz enjoyed many years with the Muncie Sailing Club on Prairie Creek.

He has been a member of the Masons since 1952, the Farm Bureau since 1955, and has been a paid up for lifetime member of the American Legion since 1957.

Surviving him are Annette, his wife of 68 years; their son David Schnepf (Louise) of Albany and their daughter Sarah Schnepf (Leslie) of San Francisco, California. Fritz leaves two granddaughters; Stacy Rupp (Jim) of Columbus, Indiana; Cami Reynolds (Corey) of Wichita, Kansas; and four great-grandchildren: Ashlyn McBride, Zac Reynolds, Owen Rupp, and Mallory Rupp.

Also surviving are three sisters, Marjorie Snider (Lloyd), of Mooresville, Indiana; Martha DeRiter, of Greenwood, Indiana; and Mary Lou Endres, of Lebanon, Indiana.

Fritz is to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
