Gary Hazen Mills, 58, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Integra Specialty Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness. He was born on December 19, 1951 in Muncie to the late Hazen Edward and Elsie May (Kennedy) Mills. Gary is a 1971 graduate of Yorktown High School.
After returning from Texas in 1989, Gary worked at Sun Shine Caf as a chef for many years before retiring due to health reasons. Gary was a very loving and giving person; had a wonderful sense of humor; and was very devoted to his family. He claimed his nieces and nephews as his own children. Gary played Santa Claus at Marilyn''s Day Care as well as Sun Shine Caf. Gary will be terribly missed by his family this Thanksgiving as Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday.
Gary is survived by 2 sisters: Marilyn Goforth (husband, Jim) of Yorktown and Carolyn Mills (companion, Richard Tipton) of TN; 4 nieces: April Reagan; Lisa Miller; Melissa Autrey; and Tammy Laws; 2 nephews: James Goforth and Jeffry Scott; 2 great nieces; 3 great nephews; and his beloved four-legged dog and best friend Bently.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Larry Mills; niece Angel Dawn Robbins; and great niece Ashta Goforth.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie. The funeral service will be at Garden View Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Pastor Bruce Crabtree will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association and/or ARF in Muncie.
