Gene V. Lyons' Obituary
Gene V. Lyons, 88, of Eaton, IN. died Sunday May 18, 2008. He was born on December, 28, 1919 in Wayne County, Ky. The son of Willie and Mertie (Manning) Lyons.
He worked at Borg Warner, formerly Warner Gear, of Muncie, IN. for 30 years which he retired from in 1976. Gene also did refrigeration, air conditioning and appliance repair. He was a member of the UAW Local 287 and of the Sympathy Club and the Cooper, KY. Baptist Church. Gene attended the First Assembly of God in Hartford City, IN. Gene was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving with the 166th Station Hospital Unit, in which he served 4 years in the Pacific Theater. While serving in World War II, Gene received many decorations and citations of merit which include: Meritorious Unit Award, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon with one Bronze Service Star.
Gene attended school in Duncan Valley, in Wayne County, KY. He graduated from Commercial Trades Institute, in Chicago, ILL. with a degree in engineering for refrigeration service. He also received his pilot''s license and had a Red Funk Airplane.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 60 years: Emma Jean (Witt) Lyons, two sons: Gene Randall and Eric ( wife Andrea) Lyons, three daughters: Valerie Cooper, Lisa Abernathy and Lori ( husband Gary) Sliger, six grandchildren: Jesse, Matthew and Stephen Cooper; Cynthia (husband Jeremy) Godsey; Andrew Bye and Charlie Lyons, two great grandsons: Jacob and Garrett Godsey, and several nieces and nephews .
He was preceded in death by both his parents five brothers; Kenneth, Charlie, Grady, Robert, and William Lyons and one grandson, Joseph Cooper, and a son-in-law Howard Cooper.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.Wednesday May 21, 2008 at The Garden View Funeral Home 10501 North State Road 3 Muncie IN. 47303. Pastor Colman Barlow will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery Muncie IN. Visitation with be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 21, 2008 at the funeral home.
