Gene A. Sons, 64, of New Castle, IN, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at his residence. He was born on June 27, 1945 in New Castle, to Isaac C. and Dorothy Mae (Cassels) Sons. Gene graduated from Straughn High School, Straughn, IN in 1964. On October 16, 1993 Gene married Phyllis S. Meadows in New Castle.
Gene was a Sergeant in the US Air Force from July 1965January 1969. He served in Vietnam. Gene later was employed with ABB for 33 years in Muncie, IN, working with transformers. Gene also enjoyed vegetable gardening.
Gene is survived by his wife of 16 years, Phyllis Sons; brother Eldon E. Sons (wife, Marilyn) of Straughn, IN; sister Helen Conner Puries of New Castle, IN; a very special niece Marsha Bennett; 3 additional nieces; 2 nephews; and 14 great nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister Virginia Brown; and brother Gerald "Gerry" Sons. Per the family''s request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie, with full military rites honored.
