Obituary

George Sherman Cushenberry of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away at home at the age of 88 the evening of Monday, July 26, 2021. He was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on October 4, 1932 to the late George and Geneva (Coleman) Cushenberry.

George graduated from high school and began his work as a truck driver for the City of Muncie for more than 30 years until his retirement. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having proudly served our country in the United States Army. He married Josephine Murphy on September 9, 1955. George was a picky eater, but he did enjoy cooking his iron man stew and attending annual cookouts. He could also be found fishing or watching game shows and reality TV shows. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, friend, and brother.

George is survived by his son, Stanley Cushenberry (Bonnie) of Springs, Texas; four daughters, Mary Magdelene Thompkins of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Tamera Johnson (Carl, Sr.) of Tusla, Oklahoma , Erma McKelvey of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Charade Cushenberry of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two brothers, Frank Cushenberry and Robert Cushenberry of Indianapolis, Indiana; three sisters, Lena Tibbs and Sara Johnson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Minnie Cushenberry of Atlanta, Georgia; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and special friend, Marchal Hudson.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Geneva (Coleman) Cushenberry; his beautiful wife, Josephine Murphy; two daughters, Cytria Twilley (Rickey) and Shermaine Denise Cushenberry; three brothers, Prentice Knight, Hiram Cushenberry, and William Cushenberry; one sister, Mary Virginia Cushenberry; and special cousins, Mary Bell Strange and Agnes Lucille "Tootsie" Murphy .

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 North State Road 3, Muncie with funeral services immediately following at 12:00 PM, also in the Funeral Home, officiated by Elder Douglas Rollins and with Military Honors.
