George E. Dillie, 80, of Muncie, IN went to be with the Lord on Sunday May 11, 2008 after a courageous fight against cancer. He was born on February 20, 1928 in Randolph County, the son of Valmond Dillie and Bessie (Courtner) Dillie both deceased. On September 4, 1948 he married his wife of 53 years Mary Joyce (Hage) Dillie who precedes him in death. George attended Parker High School. He retired from General Motors after 47 years working as a pipe fitter. He was a member of the Local 489.
George was an avid fisherman who was well known for his charity fish fries. He bowled in several leagues and tournaments in which he was inducted into the Delaware County Hall of Fame. He was an active member of Center Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years.George was also a Master Sergeant of the Indiana National Guard for 8 years. He played basketball in high school and several industrial leagues around Muncie.
Surviving relatives include: four daughters; Linda (William Jr.) Devers; Debbie (Jim) Spencer; Becky (Don) Talley; Cindy (Monty) Robbins all of Muncie, IN. Two brothers; Howard (Betty) Dillie of Winchester; IN; Max (Marianna) of Dunkirk, IN. Eight grandchildren; William Devers III; Brian Devers; Tammy Lampke; Tina Smith; John Spencer; Lisa Kahalekomo; Jeremy Robbins; Michael Robbins and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son Michael Dillie; one granddaughter Laurie Talley; three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be on Thursday May 15, 2008 at Center Chapel United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Rusty Clements will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 14, 2008 at Garden View Funeral Home 10501 N. State Road 3 in Muncie from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be calling from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m prior to the service at the church on Thursday May 15, 2008. Memorial contributions can be made to Center Chapel United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
