George Leroy Wimmer, 87, of Venice, FL, passed away on April 2, 2011. He was born in Muncie to James O. and Alice Mae (Quire) Wimmer on July 22, 1923.
George worked for Chrysler in Kokomo and came to Florida in 1989 after he retired. George was in the Army Air Corps during WWII, receiving two Purple Hearts for his service. He was a member of the Venice Church of the Nazarene, and he enjoyed fishing and woodworking projects.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances Wimmer; son Michael of Venice; daughters Claudia Bilbrey of Venice and Janet Rose of Muncie; 12 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Bill.
A funeral service for George''s family and friends was held at the Venice Church of the Nazarene on April 5, 2011 at 2 PM.
For George''s local family and friends a visitation will be on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 N. State Rd. 3, Muncie with military rites honored by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard at Gardens of Memory Cemetery immediately following the visitation.
