Obituary

Geraldine M. "Jerry" Young, 88, Caring is the word that most beautifully describes the life of Geraldine Marie Young, "Jerry" who died on March 2, 2008. Throughout her life she cared for those around her - her parents Charles and Bessie Branch, late husband Eugene "Beanie" Young, her three teenage children, Jim Young, (wife-Carol), Muncie, Gary Young, Muncie, and Carolyn Kingen, (husband-David), Indianapolis, after the death of Beanie in 1965 along with her patients and friends. Jerry was born in Frankton,, Indiana on October 28, 1919, and graduated from Frankton High School at the age of sixteen. At age eighteen, she began nursing school at St. Johns Hospital School of Nursing in Anderson.
During Jerry''s nursing career, she cared for medical surgical patients in their homes and in hospitals in Anderson, Muncie and the State of Mississippi. Gradually she learned that her true passion was caring for pediatric patients and their families. She worked on the pediatric unit at Ball Memorial Hospital, serving as a head nurse for several years. Jerry ended her nursing career of forty-two years by working with Dr. Jack Alexander, Pediatrician, before her retirement in 1982. Jerry''s full time focus then became her three grandchildren - Brian Young, Justin and Adam Kingen and her great grandson, Drew, whom she showered with love and devotion.
Jerry will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mom and grandma, thoughtful friend, excellent cook, patient gardener and avid reader. Her wisdom, quiet caring manner, soft laugh and gentleness will continue in the lives she touched. Jerry was a faithful, humble servant of God and a dedicated member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Gene Young. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church with the Reverend Rodney Eiler officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery north of Muncie.
